Andrew Dodson, a Kentucky high school football player, died last week after being hurt during a scrimmage game with his team.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association confirmed the tight end's death on Monday, three days after he was sent to the hospital with a head injury sustained during a tackle.
"No words can explain, excuse, or understand catastrophes like this," according to the group. "We simply beg for peace and comfort for him and our beautiful Commonwealth.
We also advise everyone to seek out family and friends to help them get through this tough time and to speak about all of the feelings that come with losing a friend, sibling, comrade, kid, or colleague."
"We know that in the hours, days, weeks, months, and years ahead, we will remember his battling spirit and enthusiasm for all things Pulaski County,
as well as his sincerely held convictions about his time on earth and the hereafter," they concluded.
